We were honored to welcome Dr. Stefan Rothenburg from UC Davis during his recent visit. He participated in our lab meeting, sharing valuable insights and engaging in productive discussions with our team

Three former PhD students (left side in the photo) and a research assistant visited the lab. After leaving school, balancing responsibilities and working in different cities makes it more challenging to get together. We're so happy they could visit and see the changes in the old lab.

​Shimoda Sensei had a brief visit on August 5th. We have maintained a long-term collaboration that began with the SFTSV project in 2014. Additionally, in 2023, Eva conducted a short-term project under Shimoda Sensei's supervision at the University of Yamaguchi, validating the performance of the SFTSV NP diagnostic assay. Our new teaching hospital is currently under construction, and during his visit, we took him to see the branch hospital in the city center.

Murakami Sensei and one of his PhD students visited Taiwan for sampling in July. Our collaboration started with the IDV project. Thanks to Dr. Chen, we had the opportunity to explore a bat cave in Taipei! Since duck is not a common poultry in Japan, we organized a roast duck party for 綾乃, who visited us at NCHU during this short trip.

Tomorrow, Yumiko will begin on a six-month research training program at the Cleveland Clinic before her graduation in NCHU.

Yumiko presented her oncolytic study on AACR-NCI-EORTC-SYMPOSIUM ON MOLECULAR TARGETS AND CANCER THERAPEUTICS, held in Boston, US.

By chance, she visited BigO (Dr. Da-Yuan Chen), the first MSc student, in HSU lab!

I am honored to have been invited to speak at the symposium. The topic of my presentation is "Influenza virus NS1: a multifaceted enigmatic viral protein."

First of all, congratulation to 叡陞 and 瑞玲! You guys did a great job in the two years at NCHU!!

It is the last day in the lab for 瑞玲 who graduated and will move up to Taipei, NTU. All the best!

叡陞 is pursuing a Ph.D. in our lab. Work hard and play hard!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  we have not seen Songkhla for over three years.

He stopped by Taiwan while visiting his mom in Thailand from Mosco, where he serves as minister counselor.

I have not yet joined conference since 2020. The last one is on 2019 April-- The 2nd Joint Meeting of Veterinary Science in East Asia, held in Korea.
All the current members in my lab joined the meeting. It was a different experience for the junior members. Raison and Yumi signed up for oral presentation. Good job!

To celebrate 天宮石斛盛開 in my back yard, we had a dinner party on Friday night.

Welcome a New comer 佳駿, and welcome home, 瑜芝!

We also glad to have our long term little helpers from Ou Lab.

I recalled the spring party in Glasgow. There are two party in the Institute: Sparkling-and-strawberry party in spring time, and then Cheese-and Wine party in winter.

I like the idea! Winter for Shabu-Shabu.

冠勳, 愛萍 were my first PhD, MSc students, respectively! 欣瑜 and 佳季, the student I co-supervised with Prf. Wong,  were in the same batch as 愛萍.

Yoyo was the student in the lab next door to me, and now she lives in my neighborhood, what a coincidence!

So nice to have a gathering with them and their families in Xmas day; what a blessing event.

We miss the mountain climbing trips in 合歡山 arranged before COVID-19.  With help from the GI of Biotechnology, we planned a hiking activity for our Institute in Feb. It is great timing to work out after the Chinese new year.

This year, we received two undergraduate students, 劉詠涵 and Anastasia Hanny  from NCHU and Universitas Airlangga (Indonesia), respectively.

Also, luckily, a postdoc, Dr. April Tsai, is in our lab from 2021 August-2023 March.

At the end of the year, it is a good time to have a feast to celebrate a good harvest and a farewell party for the undergraduates.

In this year, we received two MSc students (叡陞、瑞玲) and April, the PostDoc fellow.

叡陞 graduated from THU.

瑞玲 graduated from 臺北護理健康大學.

April joined us after she got Ph.D. degree from UC Davis.

爾妝did her MSc experiment in my lab. She worked very hard and was good at bench work. In one year of time, she finished the experiment:

老馬, the Ph.D. working in my lab, treated us wonderful lunch. We were thrilled when visited the basement of his house~ it is surely a museum full of his collections: 彈珠檯、飛機模型、舊海報、飲料機, etc. —recalled the old-time memory.

Yumiko, Jed, and Gielenny as well as her sister came to my home for lunch and a Baking day.
Baking at home, the cupcake is just as good as those you can get from the top bakery.
We thank Geil for a good demonstration.

(I feel so sorry that in fact, I forgot to mark my calendar and realized this party afterward when all guests arrived~
 

This summer, we received several short-term members; Abigail (from US),  冠妤and果毅 (NCHU), as well as one from 嘉義大學 獸醫系! 
Abigail, an independent young girl from UW, was here for three months.
Two NCHU students signup my lab for 基科概, and 嘉大student was here for the summer to gain lab experience.
 

This summer, we received a couple of short-term members; Kelly and 慧珍. Kelly came as a RA. She, who was originally trained as a large animal Vet, would like to pick up some laboratory experience before her study in the Netherlands.  Kelly is here for four months. 慧珍 , an Undergraduate in Dept Vet Med, joined us as a summer student.

Ryan graduated from my lab and moved to Australia for his PhD.
